Possessing convenient transportation facilities, Yingkou
is crisscrossed by the Changchun-Dalian Railway, Harbin-Dalian
Highway, Shenyang-Dalian Expressway and Beijing-Shenyang Expressway.
It is about a one-hour drive by car to the international airports
of Shenyang and Dalian.
The city has a well-developed telecommunications system, with
inter-city broadband operating smoothly and with an information
infrastructure that leads other parts of China.
As the oldest port for northeast China, Yingkou opened to
foreign business and trade in 1861. Known as “Shanghai outside
the Shanhaiguan area”, it was then home to the consulates
of 11 countries including the United Kingdom, the United States,
France, Germany and Japan.
Yingkou Harbor today is one of the 10 major coastal ports
of China. Thus far, it has established links with more than
140 ports in some 40 countries and regions. It offers regular
passenger and cargo services to Inchun in the Republic of
Korea. Currently, it has an annual cargo handling capacity
of 60 million tons, which is expected to increase to 100 million
tons by 2008. Yingkou is working hard to develop its harbor
economy. |
